Maths

 At Trafalgar Schools’ Federation our aim is to develop confident, enthusiastic mathematicians.

Maths is taught using a mastery approach and we follow the White Rose primary scheme of learning which helps to develop a solid understanding of core mathematical concepts. New concepts are introduced in small steps ensuring pupils can build on their prior knowledge and fully embed new learning before moving on. All lessons from Reception to Year 6 use a wide selection of concrete (practical), pictorial and abstract representations as well as lots of opportunities to talk concepts through with peers and grownups. Pupils’ are given weekly opportunities to consolidate their weekly learning as well as being challenged and supported to understand how to respond to reasoning questions.
